The Port-Neuf community centre in La Rochelle launched the remise à flot (relaunch) integration project in 2006. This project provides assistance to people with limited access to employment in the form of integration projects in areas relating to the nautical sector, a prominent feature of the territory.

The integration project includes four workshops: environment/Marine creation/business-training school/boat storage, and employs around twenty people. Run by professionals, these workshops provide training opportunities and vocational experience, reigniting their taste for work.

Remise à Flot  is also part of an environmentally friendly and economic approach by facilitating the restoration of boats donated to the Business-Training school workshop by their owners, giving them a new lease of life.

The Marine Creation workshop produces bags and luggage from recycled materials (discarded sail cuts and lorry tarpaulins). The objects created are then sold during different consumer fairs with a view to raising awareness of sustainable development and recovery. The people being reintegrated therefore acquire genuine know-how through sewing and were able to take part in cultural events promoting their creations.

The European social Fund (ESF) helped finance this project by facilitating the development of a vocational integration project, which allowed eighteen people to find employment in the "Marine Creation" workshop.

"Without Europe's aid, we clearly wouldn't be where we are now in terms of integration project development; maybe there would be none. […] This is a unique product relating to sustainable development. We are keen to export our products throughout the world".
