The objective of this project is to optimise the treatment of strokes 24/7, by using tele-medicine resources to provide on-call neurology and imaging services on several sites.

Télé-AVC is a perfect illustration of tele-expertise and tele-consultation in an emergency medical situation where the existing organisation of healthcare does not always guarantee the permanent physical presence of certain specialists.

Following an 18-month preparatory period, the system entered the operational phase on 15 June 2011, on three different sites.

This system provides neurovascular expertise to the medical institutions that have none, based on the new means of communication allowing the transmission of high-quality images and remote diagnosis in real time.

This project currently benefits five hospitals of the region, i.e.: Arras, Cambrai, Lens, Maubeuge, Valenciennes.

The principle: An on-call neurologist and a on-call radiologist give 24/7 remote advice to the emergency physicians from the requesting Hospitals. If a stroke is suspected, the transmission of MRI results helps the neurologist decide remotely whether or not to perform a thrombolysis procedure.
